Memory is an essential phenomenon of life. It is hard to imagine a
life without memory. Be it an animal or human every creature needs to memorize
its past lessons/experiences to improve performance. It is well known fact that
the ability to remember and/or recall decrease in old age. Not only the age,
physical activity, diet and life style also impact the memory.
Below are 8 Points to Improve Your Memory:
1. Physical Activity
Excersie
helps in good blood flow in the body. A good blood flow stimulates your brain.
It enhances the supply of nutrients which are needed for brain to function. Studies
have shown that the hormone named Irisin produced during exercise improve cognition. Individuals who are physically active and perform regular
exercise demonstrate good grasping
power. Exercise enhances memory and thinking by improving mood and sleep, and by reducing stress and anxiety.
2. Meditation
Practicing meditation
on regular basis results in increase blood flow to the brain, which in
turn leads to a stronger network of blood vessels in the cerebral cortex and
reinforces memory. Meditation provides relaxing and soothing effect on body. A
relax mind grasp more as compared to stressed mind.
3. Mental Activity
Like the physical activity, mental activity is also required
to improve brain power/memory. A dull brain has less potential to learn as
compared to active brain. Decreased activity leads to cognitive decline and may
result in dementia. So you need to keep your brain active and alert always.
Keep learning new things and keep your mental activity on. It can be as big as
learning new skill or as small as trying a new route for your office!!
Crosswords or other mobile apps which are dedicated to train the brain help in
improving the memory.
4. Social Activity

sense of well being. It energizes and motivates you to live a good life. A
social interaction washes away the stress and depression which can help in
improving your memory.
5. Focus
Avoid distractions as much as possible. Organise your tasks
and do one thing at a time. Repeat, repeat and repeat.....until you memorise it
completely. A habitual study of short periods generates good learning and
memory than the learning the whole thing in a single lengthy session.
6. Mnemonics

an approach to memorize information. Sticky notes, acronyms and chunking are
some examples of mnemonics. You can write down the things to remember on sticky
notes and keep it at a point where you can look at it while roaming in the
home. An acronym is a word that is made up by taking the first letters of all
the key words or ideas you need to remember and creating a new word out of
them. Chunking breaks a long list of numbers or other types of information
into smaller, more manageable chunks.
7. Diet

vitamin D may lead to poor memory. Add fruits and vegetables in your diet.
Almonds and wall nuts are good for your memory as these contain rich amount of
antioxidant Vitamin E. Antioxidants such as dark chocolate which contain cocoa
and berries containing flavonoid antioxidants lessen cellular stress and inflammation and helps in memory
improvement. Fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids
help in building and repairing brain cells. Avoid alcohol and drugs which cause
confusion and loss of memory.
8. Sleep
A normal adult require 7-9 hours of sleep. Sleeping helps in
strengthen the memories which can be recalled when needed. Taking a nap after you learn
